We are a voluntary body solely funded by membership, subscriptions, donations and fund-raising events.
We support the Party in a number of different ways:
- Campaigning on our beliefs
- Organising and attending events (Political and social)
- Providing new ideas
- Keeping our Councillors, MP and MEP’s informed on a huge range of issues
- Assisting in the formation of policy
Charnwood Conservatives are a relatively new organisation. We came into being in 1994 when the Boundary Commission announced the formation of a new parliamentary constituency from the extremities of Bosworth, Blaby, Rutland & Melton and Loughborough constituencies.
We were fortunate that we inherited a good number of activists from our neighbouring associations not to mention The Rt. Hon Stephen Dorrell who had been the MP for Loughborough since 1979. We have grown in strength and reputation in the last decade in a varying political climate. Since May 2015, Ed Argar became the new MP for Charnwood.
The boundaries of the constituency mean that to this day we have a diverse range of councillors covering town, village and country wards on Blaby District (7/9) and Hinckley & Bosworth (1/2) and Charnwood Borough Councils (17/20). Of the 54 seats on the County Council 10 are in Charnwood and all of these are Conservative except Thurmaston and Glenfields.
Today is an incredibly exciting time to be a Conservative as the Party is clearly identified as a voice for change, optimism and hope for everyone wherever they live in Britain. Charnwood Conservatives will have an input into the policies that will resonate that wish.
Locally we have been very active. Now that we have taken control of Charnwood Borough Council, our councillors are busy running the Council in the best interests of Charnwood people. We also increased our numbers on the Conservative controlled Hinckley & Bosworth and Blaby Councils.
If you are not already a member consider joining us. As well as a meaningful statement it gives you the opportunity to belong to the only open and democratic British Political Party.
Our structure and rules are explained in the attached documents, which are self-explanatory.
