Kirby Muxloe & Leicester Forest East Branch

The Kirby Muxloe & Leicester Forest East Branch of the Charnwood Conservative Association had a very vibrant meeting in the Kirby Muxloe Library on the 3rd of March 2014. It was chaired by the Cllr David Clements.

This is a resurrection of the branch, following the unfortunate departure of the Parsons.

A number of new members, who recently joined the Party, gave a refreshing flavour to the meeting.

Cllr David Clements was elected in the position of Branch Chairman and Stuart Coar as the deputy Chairman. Our new member Lindsay Dracup was elected as secretary of the branch. David and Lindsay will represent the branch to the Executive Council of the Association.

All participating members posed for the photo. And, of course, Stuart asked for a donation to the branch for the photo! Cheeky!Meanwhile, Syston branch had a lovely meeting. Sue Gerrard was elected as the new Branch Chairman. Congratulations Sue. Cllr Dave Houseman was in the front line again!

Building in Rothley causes unrest

Many residents in Charnwood recoil in horror watching the random, almost anarchical, transformation of rural and agricultural land into housing estates. This has a catastrophic effect on the character of Charnwood and the situation is getting worse. Our people feel betrayed. What has happened to the ‘Core strategy’? If the Council has a solid plan for development across the A6/A46 corridor, why do we see all these new developments outside the proposed area? Does the ‘Core strategy’ for future developments in Charnwood include the concept of ‘green belts’? The planning application for a new housing estate in West Cross Lane, which is expanding Mountsorrel into Rothley’s land has overstepped the mark. Our Councillor Peter Osborn is keen to give an update on current legislation and guidance on planning issues. We will organise a meeting very soon. The Charnwood Conservative Association (CCA) has made a short video-reportage on the most serious issues in Rothley and the response was revealing. You can watch it by clicking READ THE STORY and then click on the link (on the left of the screen).

Mary Allen's campaign is doing well

Mary Allen is the Conservative Party's Candidate for the Birstall by-election. Birstall is a ward in Charnwood Constituency, in Leicestershire, UK. This is a by-election for the Loughborough and Charnwood Borough Council. The campaign has been extraordinary and the members’ effort was resistant to bad weather, as well as various other contradictions (i.e.  other political parties canvassing at the same time, in the same areas). No accidents reported, except that one of our members lost his glove (and almost his finger) by a rather naughty little dog, as he put a leaflet through a letter box! We hope that the doggy has not fully destroyed the glove and it could be recovered! The residents were very positive for the Conservatives and many of them personally new Mary. Well done Mary and team-Good luck. Watch the video in the page 'About us'.

Charnwood Conservative Association Executive Meeting

The attendance was remarkable despite the horrendous weather. Hanif Asmal chaired another successful and progressive executive meeting of the Charnwood Conservative Association. Leon Hadji-Nikolaou, Deputy Political, reported on the by-election progress in Birstall and announced that the approval process for the next Borough and District Council Elections will start in February, with the intention to complete it by May 2014. Norman McCausland, Deputy Membership, reported on membership and introduced some excellent fund-raising ideas. The boat-trip was a particularly attractive idea and was hailed with enthusiasm by the members of the Executive. Martin Greenwood reported on the finance with his calm and steady manner. Cllr Dan Grimley reported on Council matters, emphasizing the progress on the Core Strategy issue. Following the reports of the branches, our MP, Stephen Dorrell gave us a tremendous speech on Conservative values and future political prospects. Stephen was approved as the Conservative Candidate for Charnwood with 100% of the vote.

Mary Allen "Backing Birstall"

As Chairman of the Birstall Conservatives for many years, a Birstall ParishCouncillor and resident of Birstall for over 50 years, I believe I am the ideal candidate to continue the great work of the late Councillor, Stuart Jones. Please look on the attached leaflet.

Conservative Conference, Manchester 2013

It is a beautiful September, with an unusually warm and dry weather. There is a slight breeze, making the weather more Mediterranean than British. Manchester is packed with Conservative delegates, many of them young and proud to wear the Conservative budge even outside the security zone.
